May 27th 2012
On Sunday May 27th, 2012 the Tantanoola Primary and Preschool hosted their Annual Gala Day at the Tantanoola Sports Oval. This event has been held by the school for over 40 years and is classed as the school's "Major Fundraiser". The day consisted of a round robin Netball and Football competition for Primary School students around the district, and around 300 children once again participated in this carnival.
Nominations for the Netball competitions were a little down on previous years with 10 teams nominated in the Junior Netball Division (Yrs 3-5) and 9 nominations in the Senior Netball Division (Yrs 6-7). This year 6 teams participated in the Football Competition.
Students from schools around the district who participated this year included: Tantanoola, Mt Burr, Newbery Park, Rendelsham, Millicent North, Kalangadoo, Penola, Kangaroo Inn Area School, Beachport, Robe, Allendale and St Anthony's and Mary MacKillop Catholic Schools.
The day was fully catered for by the Tantanoola School Community with canteen facilities providing hot chips, BBQ, pies and pasties, hot dogs, fairy floss, jam donuts, cold and hot drinks. A produce stall operated near the Netball courts and was well supported. There were children's activities such as Lucky Dips, Face Painting and even some Giant Board Games.
The day kicked off with both Football and Netball starting at 9:00am with three netball courts and 2 modified ovals running continuously until the conclusion at around 3:15pm.
Presentations are held at the front of the Tantanoola Football Club where trophies were awarded to the Winning Teams and Most Valued Player trophies for each team presented.
